THE DONNAS "Don't Wait Up For Me"

The Donnas are back! Roboshobo does an awesome job at creating a very 80s hair metal/Joan Jett influenced rock video. Their outfits are great - all the neon colours, the set rules, and the song is pretty great too!

p.s. how much does that one Donna look like Dee Snider from Twisted Sister?! wow!

THE USED "Pretty Handsome Awkward"

The Used's second video off their latest album, Lies for the Liars, is a whirlwind of a party. An all night rager, with strippers, roller-girls, booze, blurred vision, monsters, vomit, drag-queens, broken glass...

watch it here:
The Used "Pretty Handsome Awkward"
Director: Lisa Mann

K-OS "Equalizer"

A throwback video to early hip-hop, retro dance-parties, clambakes, and shoutouts to iconic music legends. This video is great in the performance area, with simple, yet really effective art direction. A very clean look, with amazing stock footage throughout.

CATHERINE FEENY "Mr. Blue"

Catherine Feeny releases balloons one by one from her home, out the window. They land in the hands of a handsome passer-by, who progressively collects more and more balloons as he continues on, leading him on a trail back to her. Shot in the UK by Graydon Sheppard, this video is completely adorable.

THE USED "The Bird and the Worm"

Not only are The Used finally back with a new album, due out May 22nd, they also have an amazing new video for the first single "The Bird and the Worm". Lisa Mann does a fantastic job creating bizarre hallucinations, as well as the sense of isolation, paranoia, and insomnia that singer, Bert McCracken endures. Completely imaginative and nothing like any other video that's out right now.

Darren Pasemko of Fluorescent Hill did a great job on this short spot for the Alberta Foundation for the Arts. His stuff keeps getting more and more impressive!

K-OS "Born To Run"

''Born to Run' reminds me a lot of the committee meetings from Star Wars: Episode III. A fun talent-show like video, complete with K-OS performing on a revolving stage, and the girls from Magneta Lane posing as his backup band. The audience is stiff and bored during the performance, except for one energetic girl who can't resist not dancing to the catchy song.

JIM CUDDY "Married Again"

Jim Cuddy joins forces with Kathleen Edwards for the upbeat, quirky duet "Married Again". the video, directed by Lisa Mann follows the make-up/break-up love affrair of characters Yvonne & Donovan. the home-movie wedding shots gives a sweet and innocent look into their relationship, but later on captures their reunion after the break-up in a sleezy 'love' motel, at another attempt to re-kindling their love. a really great, funny video.

DRAGONETTE "I Get Around"

Appropriately filmed at an authentic swinger's club, Dragonette's new video for 'I Get Around' follows lead-singer Martina Sorbara through the club, as she plays the part of a very promiscuous party girl. this sexually charged video is matched perfectly with a ridiculously catchy pop song about one-night-stands and past lovers. good combo.

Dragonette "I Get Around"
Director: Wendy Morgan

MATES OF STATE "Like U Crazy"

Mates of State are an indie rock, husband & wife duo from san francisco, california. "Like U Crazy" was released in spetember 2006, directed by Roboshobo. the video features a cabaret-style performance of the band playing, as a tragic lunar disaster unfolds. Robo. did a great job capturing a very titanic-esq, almost film noir type feel. excellent.

Mates of State "Like U Crazy"

ROBERT RANDOLPH & THE FAMILY BAND "Ain't Nothing Wrong With That"

Robert Randolph & the Family Band's new dynamic performance video was shot mid-January in Los Angeles, CA. in true Noble Jones styles, there's a lot of beautifully lite shots, and interesting movement (from people and camera) throughout the video. "Ain't Nothing Wrong With That" has been getting a lot of attention over the past few weeks, with it synced with NBC's comedy programming ads...hopefully the video garners as much attention too!

INTERPOL "Evil"

Good news!!
Charlie White has been added to our roster of amazing directors! he specializes in meticulously planned, digitally manipulated photos that sometimes feature monster puppets interacting with humans. this puppet in particular was made just for Interpol's 'Evil' video. the video shows the aftermath of a horrible car crash and its effects on a strangely lifelike, shell-shocked puppet who busts some dance moves on a gurney. it's pretty creepy looking, but cleverly done.

Director: Charlie White

hi everyone!

sorry it's been so long since i've updated. things are starting to get busy again! we shot 2 videos this week, and have a few more jobs on the go.

lots to come in 2007, from Revolver.

TAKING BACK SUNDAY "12 Days Of Christmas"

A wonderful way to start off 2007 was with the youtube.com launch of the new Taking Back Sunday video, racking up over 558,000 views already! The ridiculously hilarious, improv sounding version of '12 Days Of Christmas' has a charming and warmly festive video (dispite how odd it is!). Directed by our very own animating wizards Fluorescent Hill, this is a fantastic christmas story, sure to bring a smile to your face!

LARRIKIN LOVE "Well, Love Does Furnish A Life"

hi everyone!
With the holiday season here, there hasn't really been any extra time to update this blog.
I've got a moment now, so here goes:

Here is the latest video by Drew Lightfoot, for UK Artist Larrikin Love. "Well, Love does Furnish a Life" is a perfectly catchy pop song where the chorus will be stuck in your head for hours. A cute video following a young girl and boy into the 'welcome rainbow', where they enter into a glowy forrest, with 'spirits' and animated hummingbirds. The girl is so enlightened, she wants to stay there forever, leaving the boy to go home alone.

THE HEAVY BLINKERS "Try Telling That to My Baby"

Res Fest 2006 came to a close last night, after 4 days of amazing screenings. it was definitely time well spent, seeing such great Canadian and International talent on display. Revolver had a few videos featured, including The Heavy Blinkers "Try Telling That to My Baby", in the Cinema Electronica catagory. this video follows a cupcake on his adventure through a tasty candy-land, complete with dancing lollipops, giant cookies, and synchronize swimming candycorn! definitely a treat to watch!

mmmm....watch it here:
The Heavy Blinkers "Try Telling That to My Baby"
Directors: Fluorescent Hill

INCUBUS "Megalomaniac"

From 2004, the video for 'Megalomaniac', directed by Floria Sigismondi, features a bleak, dystopian view of the world portrayed using posterization and spriting (using 2D images in 3D settings). The broad theme of the video seems to be corruption in general, though oil and explosions are recurrent symbols as well. It's visually overwhelming and completely captivating.

watch it here:
Incubus "Megalomaniac"
Director: Floria Sigismondi

DEARLY BELOVED "The Butler Routine"

Dearly Beloved's second video for 'the butler routine' is directed, once again by Lisa Mann. drippy images covering the walls gives the video a beautiful flow. a song that's deeply personal for the band tied with ghostly images and almost dreamlike scenarios truely gives the video a sincere and memorable look. i definitely think it's the best work lisa's ever done!

watch it here:
Dearly Beloved "The Butler Routine"
Director: Lisa Mann

BUCK 65 "Devil's Eyes"

Micah Meisner did a fantastic job creating a gorgeous film noir video for Buck 65's haunting and yes, catchy song 'devil's eyes'. black and white sneak peaks into crime scenes, sleezy motel rooms and late night diners make for an amazing cinematic video.

Awards:
- Video of the Year: Juno Awards 2006
- Best Cinematography: Much Music Video Awards 2006

watch it here:
Buck 65 "Devil's Eyes"
Director: Micah Meisner & Rich Terfry

EROS RAMOZZOTTI "Sta Passando Novembre"

Fluorescent Hill are an animation group from montreal, represented by Revolver Films. in this video, we follow a man on a journey for his love, through rainstorms, the jungle, ice glaciers, etc. he even gets to hug an elephant! lucky! though the song is in italian, it goes perfectly with this video, making it sincere and sweet.

watch it here:
Eros Ramozzotti "Sta Passando Novembre"
Directors: Fluorescent Hill

THE BLOOD BROTHERS "Set Fire To The Face On Fire"

The blood brothers are back with a new cd, which I'm happy to say is way better than 'Crimes'. The single 'Set Fire To The Face On Fire' was filmed in a small studio in California. Roboshobo does an amazing job at making this video completely weird and entertaining. The hand painted costumes and background make it look like a grade-school play, set in bizzarro-land. I absolutely love it!

watch it here:
The Blood Brothers "Set Fire To The Face On Fire"
Director: Roboshobo

DEARLY BELOVED "Manifesto"

Dearly Beloved doubled their cd release party at Sam the Record Man in downtown toronto, as a video shoot for their first single "Manifesto". they encouraged fans to come out wearing 'a splash of red', in which through the video (filmed in black and white) hints of red are the key.

watch it here:
Dearly Beloved "Manifesto"
Director: Lisa Mann

MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)" (live)

Speedway Films are a new addition to the Revolver Films roster of amazing directors. in a not so traditional style of directors we host, Speedway specialize mostly in live performances of bands/artists. in this clip they bring us the high-intensity performance of My Chemical Romance, live onstage - judging by Gerard Way's haircut and outfit, i'd say this was filmed on their last tour (sorry! i don't know the actual details on that).

watch it here:
My Chemical Romance "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)" live
Directors: Speedway Films

MATT MAYS "When The Angels Make Contact"

Matt Mays just released his new record last week, promoting it as the soundtrack to a (fake) movie that's being released. The video and the movie trailer for "When The Angels Make Contact" (both of the same name) were filmed in Halifax, NS. by Drew Lightfoot. Beautifully shot, and totally creative, there's something about this video that's truly special. Buck 65 is featured on the track, as well as plays a creepy fortune teller in the video. Pretty neat.

Check out the video and trailer here:

SLOAN "If It Feels Good Do It"

It's Friday, and that means taking a look back on older videos. Remember this one from Sloan in 2001? Directed by Noble Jones, the open casting call was listed as "dress as what your idea of rock and roll would look like". Pretty fun idea, for a pretty fun, rock & roll video! Big lights, kids dancing and a good song too.

Looking back at this now, I know so many people who were in this video.

Sloan "If It Feels Good Do It"
Director: Noble Jones

CASCADA "Miracle"

The glossy video for ‘Miracle’ directed by Lisa Mann, showcases Natalie in great outfits, stunning locations and shows the transition Natalie has made from her previous video into a glamorous pop starlet. I'm not into Euro-dance music, but the video is cool.

watch it here:
Cascada "Miracle"
Director: Lisa Mann

TANGIERS "A Winter's War"

A great video concept of Heart & Mind battling it out for higher ranking. After competing, they learn that they can work together, and be one strong team. Definetly the best video (in my opinion) that Graydon Sheppard has directed, so far. He just keeps getting better and better.

watch it here:
Tangiers "A Winter's War"
Director: Graydon Sheppard

DANKO JONES "First Date"

HAPPY HALLOWEEN, EVERYONE!!
Imagine going on a date with someone, not knowing they're a vampire, and they bite your neck, turning you into one?! What a bummer! Check out this video from Danko Jones, directed by Micah Meisner. Not totally brand new, but definitely fits for Halloween!

BOO!....watch it here:
Danko Jones "First Date"
Director: Micah Meisner

CADENCE WEAPON "Black Hand"

*no updates over the past few days, 'cause i've been a busy-bee*

This video rules! I still can't believe the dude who's behind Cadence Weapon is only 19!

(obviously, i don't have time to write a synopsis today too....sorry!)
watch the video here:
Cadence Weapon "Black Hand"
Directors: Fluorescent Hill

CHRISTINA AGUILERA "Hurt"

Xtina's reinvented herself into a blonde bombshell, complete with a circus/burlesque theme to it. Her directorial debut along side Floria Sigismondi is a visually stunning video - a story of a father-daughter relationship. Flashbacks of a young Christina with her father at the circus, then switches to older Christina being the 'star' of the show. She receives telegram that is later revealed to be a message of her father's death, and as Christina realises that she was too wrapped up in her stardom to deal with what matters, she races through the circus in a belated attempt to find her father.

Christina Aguilera "Hurt"
Directors: Floria Sigismondi & Christina Aguilera

THE STROKES "Juicebox"

Though this video was filmed before Michael Palmieri was added to the Revolver Films roster, he's one of my favorite directors, so I wanted to post it. This racy video filled with chance encounters in bathroom stalls, webcams, sexual aggression and 'deleted scenes' is pretty awesome. Mr.David Cross having a cameo in it is fine by me too!

watch xxx:
The Strokes "Juicebox"
Director: Michael Palmieri

BIG DIRTY BAND "I Fought The Law"

With all the hype surrounding the Trailer Park Boys movie, I thought it was appropriate to post this video. Geddy Lee, Matt Walsh, Jeff Burrows, Alex Lifeson and Care make up this Canadian-Super-Group for their cover of "I Fought The Law". The video features Ricky, Julian and Bubbles causing havoc around the streets of Toronto.

watch it here:
Big Dirty Band feat Trailer Park Boys "I Fought The Law"
Director: Andrew MacNaughtan

THE UNICORNS "Jellybones"

NOSTALGIC FRIDAYS!!

I've decided it would be fun on Fridays to post older videos. Today we go back to 2004 for The Unicorns "Jellybones". Think pink! Great band, fun video, cute outfits...and a hook for a hand! The glow-in-the-dark skeleton masks are a nice touch too.

watch here:
The Unicorns "Jellybones"
Director: Wendy Morgan

K-OS "ElectriK Heat - The Seekwill"

The Love Movement are back at it again, collaborating with Micah Meisner and Zeb Roc, on the new K-OS video. Sort of a neat idea, having an animated year book, featuring photos of their friends, Toronto scenesters, and Canadian band members. Kind of a 2006 time capsule for their surrounding group. The dancing is pretty slick too. I like it.

watch the video here:
K-OS "ElectriK Heat - The Seekwill"
Directors: The Love Movement feat. K-OS, Micah Meisner & Zeb Roc

GUSTER "One Man Wrecking Machine"

this is one of the most charming videos i've seen in a long time. a cute story of a little guy on an adventure, who gets curious and destroys everything around him. feeling sad by what he had done, he sews everything and everyone back together again.
a true hero.

get ready to say 'awww':
Guster "One Man Wrecking Machine"
Director: Drew Lightfoot

THE MOST SERENE REPUBLIC "Oh God"

i hope everyone had a nice (and delicious!) thanksgiving.

next up is MSR, directed by Graydon Sheppard. i love how everything in this video flows so naturally. a bunch of young indie-rock kids, goofing off in a public pool, as if a camera wasn't even there. all the backwards effects + the prettiness of the song makes it neat.

watch:
The Most Serene Republic "Oh God"
Director: Graydon Sheppard

BEN KWELLER "Sundress"

Michael Palmieri (who's directed videos for Foo Fighters, The Strokes, Beck...) bring us this beautifully shot video, featuring Ben Kweller and his wife. for those of us not spoken for, we at least can take this moment of a video and hold on to it, so when we (finally?) get in that relationship we can use this to inspire good days like this or better ones. haha.

check it out:
Ben Kweller "Sundress"
Director: Michael Palmeri

THE RACONTEURS "Broken Boy Soldier"

the best part about this video is the animated shots of the band - done with polaroid photos taken in sequence, then put together to create movement. the video was shot in the middle of central park, in new york city. i am in love.

watch it here:
The Raconteurs "Broken Boy Soldier"
Director: Floria Sigismondi

PRIESTESS "Lay Down"

everytime i hear this song, it gets stuck in my head.
