FRITZ HELDER & THE PHANTOMS "Making A Scene"

This is the directing debut of Sammy Rawal - an amazing artist, and good friend of mine. He's taken Toronto's most fashionably flamboyant electro-pop band, and mimicked the style of old CK ads.

*Fritz Helder & The Phantoms video is the FIRST Independent band to get a First Spin on MuchMusic!

HOT HOT HEAT "Harmonicas & Tambourines"

Vancouver's post-rock quartet Hot Hot Heat have a knack for embodying '80s New Wave sensibilities. The band's latest video, 'Harmonicas & Tambourines,' takes their sonic commitment one step further, inviting the audience to take part in an early form of karaoke, meets tv infomercials. There's even a moment when the song goes dead, as the words appear at the bottom for you to sing along to. It's a super fun video!

"POSTMORTEM BLISS"

In homage to Rebel Without A Cause, Floria recasts Nicholas Ray’s portrayal of the turbulance and pain of adolescence in a modern light. Today, institutions and their educators often diagnose these pains and confusions as a mental disorder. Postmortem Bliss is a film about the over-medicated, addicted, and misdiagnosed generation of today.

Definitely one of the most beautiful things Floria has ever done.

NEW PORNOGRAPHERS "Challengers"

Love is a powerful force in this new New Pornographers video by director Darren Pasemko, formerly of the creative collective Fluorescent Hill. Love makes a ghost into a real person. It turns grayscale into lurid, vibrant colors. It heats things up to the point where everything melts, be it the paint on the wall or the hand entwined with your lover's.

My Chemical Romance, live DVD!

Speedway Films, in collaboration with Revolver Film Co., just wrapped a live concert DVD for My Chemical Romance in Mexico City at Palacio de los Deportes.

Directed by Atom Rothlein and Produced by Jen Rothlein, the DVD is slated for release in early 2008 on Reprise Records.

This was the band's final stage performance of "The Black Parade" in its entirety.

MASTODON "Sleeping Giant"

As told by Director, Roboshobo,“The concept for the video was kind of my take on the mythology that seems to be encapsulated in the album,” he begins. “I thought the reference to ‘Father Snake in the song sounded like an actual priest of some sort and thats where the robot came in…I also liked to think that the point of the ritual was to cultivate a crystal skull from the man’s bones after being in the earth for so long — sort of like the way coal turns to a diamond under pressure.”

TEGAN & SARA "Back In Your Head"

Canada's folk-punk twins Tegan and Sara unveil the first video from their infectious new record, 'The Con'. 'Back in Your Head' finds the pair performing in a talent show to a zombie-like crowd decked out in balaclavas. Though Jamie Travis is not on our roster, Revolver produced this video. It's a good one!

THE DONNAS "Don't Wait Up For Me"

The Donnas are back! Roboshobo does an awesome job at creating a very 80s hair metal/Joan Jett influenced rock video. Their outfits are great - all the neon colours, the set rules, and the song is pretty great too!

p.s. how much does that one Donna look like Dee Snider from Twisted Sister?! wow!

THE USED "Pretty Handsome Awkward"

The Used's second video off their latest album, Lies for the Liars, is a whirlwind of a party. An all night rager, with strippers, roller-girls, booze, blurred vision, monsters, vomit, drag-queens, broken glass...

Director: Lisa Mann

K-OS "Equalizer"

A throwback video to early hip-hop, retro dance-parties, clambakes, and shoutouts to iconic music legends. This video is great in the performance area, with simple, yet really effective art direction. A very clean look, with amazing stock footage throughout.

CATHERINE FEENY "Mr. Blue"

Catherine Feeny releases balloons one by one from her home, out the window. They land in the hands of a handsome passer-by, who progressively collects more and more balloons as he continues on, leading him on a trail back to her. Shot in the UK by Graydon Sheppard, this video is completely adorable.
