CHRISTINA AGUILERA "Hurt"

Xtina's reinvented herself into a blonde bombshell, complete with a circus/burlesque theme to it. Her directorial debut along side Floria Sigismondi is a visually stunning video - a story of a father-daughter relationship. Flashbacks of a young Christina with her father at the circus, then switches to older Christina being the 'star' of the show. She receives telegram that is later revealed to be a message of her father's death, and as Christina realises that she was too wrapped up in her stardom to deal with what matters, she races through the circus in a belated attempt to find her father.

THE STROKES "Juicebox"

Though this video was filmed before Michael Palmieri was added to the Revolver Films roster, he's one of my favorite directors, so I wanted to post it. This racy video filled with chance encounters in bathroom stalls, webcams, sexual aggression and 'deleted scenes' is pretty awesome. Mr.David Cross having a cameo in it is fine by me too!

BIG DIRTY BAND "I Fought The Law"

With all the hype surrounding the Trailer Park Boys movie, I thought it was appropriate to post this video. Geddy Lee, Matt Walsh, Jeff Burrows, Alex Lifeson and Care make up this Canadian-Super-Group for their cover of "I Fought The Law". The video features Ricky, Julian and Bubbles causing havoc around the streets of Toronto.

I've decided it would be fun on Fridays to post older videos. Today we go back to 2004 for The Unicorns "Jellybones". Think pink! Great band, fun video, cute outfits...and a hook for a hand! The glow-in-the-dark skeleton masks are a nice touch too.

K-OS "ElectriK Heat - The Seekwill"

The Love Movement are back at it again, collaborating with Micah Meisner and Zeb Roc, on the new K-OS video. Sort of a neat idea, having an animated year book, featuring photos of their friends, Toronto scenesters, and Canadian band members. Kind of a 2006 time capsule for their surrounding group. The dancing is pretty slick too. I like it.

GUSTER "One Man Wrecking Machine"

this is one of the most charming videos i've seen in a long time. a cute story of a little guy on an adventure, who gets curious and destroys everything around him. feeling sad by what he had done, he sews everything and everyone back together again.
a true hero.

THE MOST SERENE REPUBLIC "Oh God"

i hope everyone had a nice (and delicious!) thanksgiving.

next up is MSR, directed by Graydon Sheppard. i love how everything in this video flows so naturally. a bunch of young indie-rock kids, goofing off in a public pool, as if a camera wasn't even there. all the backwards effects + the prettiness of the song makes it neat.

BEN KWELLER "Sundress"

Michael Palmieri (who's directed videos for Foo Fighters, The Strokes, Beck...) bring us this beautifully shot video, featuring Ben Kweller and his wife. for those of us not spoken for, we at least can take this moment of a video and hold on to it, so when we (finally?) get in that relationship we can use this to inspire good days like this or better ones. haha.

THE RACONTEURS "Broken Boy Soldier"

the best part about this video is the animated shots of the band - done with polaroid photos taken in sequence, then put together to create movement. the video was shot in the middle of central park, in new york city. i am in love.
